The first seminars in Tanzania

In the last two weeks we were able to start the first seminars for the midwives-to-be in their 2nd and 3rd year of training here in Tanzania at the Illula Lutheran Hospital school.
To give you a small excerpt from the topics we teach:
- Variations of birthing positions,
- Vaginal examination,
- fetal heart rate and when they are pathological abnormalities,
- wie katheterisiert man richtig
- and how can I, as a midwife, manage a birth from a breech presentation
As we all know that you learn better when you try things out for yourself, we made our seminars very interactive, practiced on models and let the students try out many things for themselves.
It was great fun for both of us and we always had a lot to laugh about. Acting out different situations together with the students contributed to the general amusement. The feedback from the students and the teacher was totally positive and they would definitely like to continue working with us and our organization in the future and have us back for more seminars.
We can therefore say that the start in Tanzania was also a success and we are already planning further seminars for the future.
We also worked a few shifts together in the labor ward at the hospital in Iringa, which we know very well. Despite all the experience we have already gained here in the delivery room, there were once again situations that pushed us to our emotional limits. This made us even more convinced that we are on the right track with our organization and that a change in obstetrics is needed.
